Cheyn - God's Gift of Economic Creativity
In his book, Thou Shalt Prosper, Rabbi Lapin indicates that Cheyn is the origin for the English words coin and gain, not to mention the root of the Hebrew word for store or shop AND for a market-based economy. He goes on to say, "A store or market is one of the few places in which people interact voluntarily leaving each party happier than he or she was before" (page 159). The gist of the message of his book is that it is OK for people to be in business and make money, the more the merrier, as long as it is done legally and ethically.
Contrary to all too common and popular opinion, YES, ABSOLUTELY!!!
What kind of glory does He get when His "offspring" are seen scrounging and scratching just to get by? Jesus said that He came to provide us with a full and meaningful life (John 10:10). Does Scrounging and Scratching sound like "full and meaningful?"
The fact is that the subject of Money and Finances are covered quite extensively in the Bible; almost more than any other subject.
Those collecting the offering during church services often say, "God doesn't need your money, but you need to pay your tithe out of obedience." While it is true that God, Himself, doesn't need our money, the work of His Kingdom here on earth certainly does. The need is great -- evangelism/discipleship, the widow, the orphan, the needy. The more prosperous we are, the more we can contribute to all the work that needs to be done.Personally, I want to be a "Cash Cow For The Kingdom." I do not apologize for wanting to make gobs of money from legal and moral business ventures. Money for my family, and money for The Kingdom.
For My Family
The Bible talks about leaving an inheritance for our children and our children's children. Don't even try to get super-spiritual here and think God was talking only about a "spiritual inheritance." Ha! To me, that is a cop-out so we don't have to produce anything tangible and lasting with our lives for future generations.
For The Kingdom
I have owned a number of businesses throughout the years, starting with a gas station in 1973, each with mediocre to good success. One night in April, 2012 God told me that He was going to give me a new mindset in business, that He was going to provide and give me provision, and that I am going to "Fund The Kingdom." Wow, what an honor, and what a mandate!
"According to your faith be it unto you."
As surely as God calls some to be Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers, I believe He also calls some to be Entrepreneurs for the work of His Kingdom. When we are doing the will of God, that special something which He has called us to do, we are in good company -- in the company of all those who have gone before us, in whatever calling, as Sons and Servants of God.
In my business career I have earned as much as $3,250 a week and as little as $0 a week. Believe me when I say $3,250 a week is much better!
Although I cannot say that I have yet apprehended that for which I have been apprehended I can honestly say that I am endeavoring to learn what I need to learn, and that I am on my way. I am currently working on three businesses which I believe are part of God's mandate for my life
An International Shipping Company -- The Ark Shipping Company
An International Boat Building Company -- Ruby Yachts
A Motion Picture Production Company -- PTL Productions
I have no formal education or training in any of the above (ad)ventures, which causes me to constantly rely on God as the Provider of everything necessary to make each of them work and reach their greatest potential in and for Him. Remember, God does not call the qualified, He qualfies the called. I know He will bring into my life those who will help me accomplish the goals I have set in service to Him.
